JOIN US ON OUR NEXT ADVENTURE! THE BARREL AGING OF BRITISH RUM, ENGLISH WHISKY AND ENGLISH BOURBON-STYLE WHISKY

We’ve been hard at work, tweaking and learning for quite a number of years now and are thrilled to invite you to join us on this maturing adventure! We’ll be laying down three barrels with 63% spirit in each of the following; double distilled British rum, double distilled single malt and double distilled bourbon, all matured for 3 years.

OUR INAUGURAL 3 YEAR SPIRITS MATURATION CLUB - WELCOME!

We are the grandfathers of British Rum, being the first to ferment sugar cane molasses and commercially distill rum, way back in 2012.  In 2014 we were voted best rum in the world at the Hong Kong RumFest.

We’ve been making whisky since 2012 in partnership with numerous breweries the length and breadth of the UK and they have been oh so well received.

We take a different approach to most: we optimize our saccharification and fermentation. When it comes to distilling, our panoply of accolades speak for themselves; no stripping run, two polished distillations and then into barrels that we think provide for the best result for the time we have in mind - in the case of this adventure 3 gorgeous years!

When you buy your “share” you are purchasing 25L of newmake spirit of your choice, which we will hold in a 225L barrel for three years for you.

You will receive a certificate for what you have paid, what you own and where it is stored, barrel number and what went into it and how it was made.

We will send you a dated 5cl sample that is not deducted from your share every quarter and for you to follow the progress of your spirit

Your 25L of spirit of choice will be released from the barrel on its third anniversary.

You are responsible for all taxes and duties payable upon release from the distillery and we can arrange to pay that on your behalf.

We’d expect a loss of 2.8% as angel’s share during the period with the alcohol in your 25L to be around 60%.

FAQ'S

Will my spirit be insured against damage and fire?

Yes

Where will it be stored?

Treguddick Distillery, PL15 7JN

There will be a private Cask Dinner twice a year at Treguddick and you will be invited to that.

What happens when my 25L of spirit is mature?

There are lots of options:

You can bottle it yourself to drink or gift or sell directly to others

We can bottle it for you for a charge - typically £2 per bottle.

If we have customers to buy your spirit, we’ll let you know and you can decide if you wish to sell it this way.

You could simply pop it into a 25L barrel and mature it for longer yourself or we could do that for you!

AN ILLUSTRATION OF COST & BREAKDOWN

Your 25L at 60% will give you 35.7L at 42% vol, if you use 50cl bottles you will have 71 bottles and a part bottle.

If you sell at £50 per bottle that would give you £3550, you will have to pay duty, which is currently £31.64 per litre of pure alcohol and the VAT on that (£71 x 0.5 x 0.42 x 31.64 x 1.2 = £566.10

If you want us to bottle it for you we will charge £2 per bottle (£142 + VAT).

So, you will net £3550 - £1500 - £566.10 - £170.40 = £1313.50.

In summary, that’s £1500 to buy your spirit returned to you and £1313.50 in your hand, a return of 1313.50/1500 = 87.5%

If you were simply to enjoy your 25L yourself, have us bottle it and pay the duty, the whole adventure would have cost you £1500 + duty and vat + bottling = £1500 + £566.10 + £170.40 = £2236.50 for 71 x 50cl bottles at 42% mature spirit, i.e. £31.50, a bit of a bargain really!

Depending on the market at the time, we’d expect between 1.9 x 2.9 x return. That said, what can go up can also go down!
